Greener sounds wanted. No more compression please, save our ears.

January 25, 2012

These screenshots highlight the difference between dynamic and powerful sound: highest peaks reach 0 dB in both cases, but it is clear that compressed sound and maximized on average stronger.

The musical signal oscillates mostly below the peak of the song.

For example, imagine that your guitar recording lasts 2 minutes and its maximum is below -6 dB during these 2 minutes, except in one place where you find a peak at 0 dB.

It is very fast and almost inaudible.

It would be unfortunate if the entire piece is 6 decibels below what it could be without this peak!

So we will “crush” (hence the term “compress”) it at the same level as the others and increase the overall level of the music of 6 dB.

Conclusion: The level of the piece will ultimately higher without the sound is so far amended audible

Some local shortages of drugs in France?

January 20, 2012

To limit this practice and maintain control of the profits originating from drugs, pharmaceutical companies set quotas on hundreds of products. They ration the monthly quantity of products assigned to each wholesaler, based on its market share. Once the quota is reached, the company do not deliver the wholesaler anymore, and the wholesaler do not deliver the drugstore anymore. A local shortage is threatening.
